[UPDATED] EPL: Salah’s brace helps Liverpool beat Southampton 3-2

Mohamed Salah’s double earned Liverpool a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.

The Egyptian scored a brace with an initial equaliser in the 65th minute before converting from the spot in the 83rd minute.

The win further assured Arne Slot’s men of maintaining the table lead after 12 games.

Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai put the Reds in the lead in the 30th minute. He capitalised on an error from Flynn Downes before slotting the ball into the net with a curly effort.
The Saints pulled one back in the 42nd minute from a penalty rebound after Adam Armstrong saw his initial effort saved by Caoimhin Kelleher.

Southampton doubled the score line in the 56th-minute mark with a brilliantly worked play. Armstrong held on the ball close to the Liverpool defence before laying it down to Matues Fernandes, who took no chances to blast the ball past Kelleher.
Barely 10 minutes later, Salah raced with the ball towards the Southampton defence, with Downes keeping him on. The Egyptian equalised for the away team as tension rose.
The Egyptian pulled a cross from the right corner of the hosts’ box. As the ball drifted towards Andrew Robertson, it made contact with the arm of Japanese defender Yukinari Sugarawa. The referee wasted no time to point to the spot.

Salah, who’s no stranger to stoppage time winners, came to the rescue for his club once more.

He stepped forward to take the spot, sending Alex McCarthy the right way, but the accuracy and shot power propelled the ball into the net.

Liverpool continue to stay atop the league table with 31 points, winning 10 games with one draw and a loss.
